The Real Friend

Hey Friends, Welcome to BlackWordz.
Today,  I want to take you through a mental journey… To that experience we usually like to forget happened. So do you remember whenever you fall sick and it felt like you were going to die? Good thing, you are still alive and very well. It would have been difficult to recuperate fully on your own, you would have needed someone to really care for you. It could have been your mom, doctor, nurse, dad, friend or even someone you barely know. The presence of a caring companion sometimes is all it takes. We all need friends but more importantly, we all need good friends. Friends that heal!  Enjoy my little poetry and remember that awesome friend(s) of yours who was there for you when no one else was.

In the labyrinth of pain and anguish
Writhing to and fro like a reptile travailing in birth
Your skin attaches to your bone
Like dried lava on mountain’s hide
Drying your will and health
Sucking at your life and glow…..

It attacks like a thief in the night
When the soul is relaxed and at rest, surrounded by the friends that be
It comes like a persistent image coming into focus
Separating the real from the unreal
As you watch helplessly like a baby
Through wet eyes,
you see countenance change…
Fake smiles wash off like sand washed by rain
Busy becomes the identity of those that seemed

Finding a companion who would stick
Through sickness and health is a rare find
It might not be a marriage of two souls
More like a gentle brush of finger tips which would mean a lot…
That smile that won’t falter until it receives another just as strong and beautiful
Without life and strength, there is nothing more to do in this world
The emotional strength to pull through and the physical strength to abide strong
Doing what is most important while it can still be done
Is what matters most in this world that is neither black nor white
But a muddle of colours…

There are so many types of friends in this life
They are like gifts in a wrapper
You open one up and you see the beauty of a true friendship
And the other, just a reflection of man’s survival instinct
Sucking at you when there’s something to be gotten
Beware of those kinds, they are human leeches
Parasites who won’t ask to stop
You make them stop.
If you need a friend, find a friend that heals
And be that friend too.

Yeah, I like this. It resonates, obviously because I’ve had my share of ‘downs’ but have had real friends who turned them into ‘ups’ by being there.

I like this one. There’s nothing better than being taken care of, or be appreciated by someone else. True friends are like diamonds. It seems like “friendship” was this weekends theme. lol. Thanks for liking my latest posting.

  8. Many friends of the past have just evaporated away and I don’t know how or why but it’s decades of drifting away. I wish I could hook up with them but most I knew by just first or last name or a nickname. I wonder if they feel the same about me. Have been able to stay in touch with fraternity bros of 45 years ago from college.
